Disney Transportation Options + My Favorite!

One of the biggest perks to me about staying on property at Disney World? Parking my car and not moving it until the end of our trip! It's nothing like a trip to the beach, or to the mountains where you still have to drive everywhere. Disney has the service for you! Now I know some people still drive their cars to the park, even if they stay on property. I'm not really sure why they would do that. You aren't saving time, and it doesn't have near the excitement and experience as Disney Transportation.

So what are the different Disney transportation options? Where can you use certain ones at?


Boat - There are lots of different boats at Disney. They are free floating vessels and docking can be dangerous. You'll need to fold up strollers to make room for everyone on board. There are friendship boats that run from one side of Epcot to the other. The other friendship boats run from Hollywood Studios, Swan & Dolphin, Boardwalk, and the Beach Club, and also to the back entrance of EPCOT. There are also boats that run from Riverside, French Quarter, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs to Disney Springs (and back.) There is a different set of boats that take you different docks of Disney Springs. If that isn't enough boating experience for you Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness have different kinds of boat that take people to each other's resorts, and to Magic Kingdom. The Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village and the Contemporary all have water taxis that take you the Magic Kingdom.

Bus - Buses are pretty simple. They are to all of the theme parks from all of the resorts. All of the resorts also have a bus that takes them to Disney Springs. Many even have a bus to the water parks. And Pop Century resort has a bus that takes you to World of Sports Complex. Another bus you may see  around the Disney property is called the Magical Express. These people are either leaving or coming by plane. Disney has this service available as well! Also you may see a Cruise Line bus at resorts or around these people are also either leaving for a cruise or coming back from a cruise and are not at Disney World! It's pretty amazing the lengths that Disney will go for people to make sure they get where they need to be.

Ferryboat - I've only rode on the big ferryboat that takes you Magic Kingdom twice in my life. Both of those times have been while I was on a school trip to Disney. This service is from the Transportation Center outside of the Magic Kingdom. If you drive to the Magic Kingdom, this and the monorail are the only two ways to get to Magic Kingdom. (**Hint** If you arrive early better catch the monorail, the ferryboat starts later to allow resort guest to get to Magic Kingdom first. But the ferryboat is faster than a monorail, but only sometimes.) The ride itself is six minutes, but add in docking and you are looking at 10 minutes on the ferryboat.

Monorail - The monorail system was started 1971 with the Magic Kingdom "Resort" and "Express" monorail lines; the former runs in a loop between Magic Kingdom and the TTC via the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary Resorts, while the latter bypasses the resorts and goes directly between the TTC and Magic Kingdom via a parallel loop. The Epcot line was added in 1982. As of 2013, the system is one of the most heavily used monorail systems in the world with over 150,000 daily riders. Disney World does not have the newest monorail system. Disneyland actually has the newer version.

So which is these is my favorite? Well it's a tie between boat and bus! I usually stay at Wilderness Lodge Villas so having a boat to Magic Kingdom is always amazing, but I simply love the bus. But I can also say that when I have stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside I have enjoyed the boat to Disney Springs. So I choose both the bus and the boats!
