Why This Modern Girl Loves Vintage

At twenty-five years old, I love to dress up in hair combs, a petticoat, and have Victory Rolls in my hair. Glenn Miller is usually helps me relax like nothing else ( or maybe it is, Dick Singleton and the Single Tones.) And watching Father Knows Best, I Love Lucy, and Make Room for Daddy transport me into another time. I am a modern girl with a vintage heart!

First thing that I love about vintage is the music. Like I said to begin with there is just something so relaxing about Glenn Miller that I just dance away in my head. Sirius Radio has a 40s station that is incredible. I do wish they would make a Bing Crosby station. I think I could just wonder around listening to Let Me Whisper 'I Love You.'

While we are talking about Bing Crosby, can I just mention on how it seemed like they made the holidays seem larger than life and they didn't have projections or LED lights? Tinsel trees shimmered in the lights, and if you had a live tree icles/tinsel were place aka thrown on the branches. Everyone decorated mostly because it was time when people could put away their differences, for the most part, and enjoy a celebration.

Dancing is another reason why I love vintage things. Not everyone enjoyed dancing back then, but it was more accepted thing to do than it is now. Rita Hayworth, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelley, and Ginger Rogers are what comes to mind. I think I could watch their videos on Youtube all day long. People don't understand the emotional aspect of dancing. I remember taking dance as a kid and learning the steps. I was very awkward until I put my heart into it and then I started looking more fluid.

What to wear? The petticoat/crinoline look is something that I absolutely love! I was a preteen and fell in love with a dress that had one built in. Not to mention watching Lucy walk through her apartment moving her skirt! Oh I adore that! Today I still the most feminine while wearing such. It just gives you that feeling of just being happy and swishing a skirt. Whirling Turban is the expensive route but ModCloth has a more cheaper flare.

Next reason I love vintage is the artwork! I love the round, cherry cheek look of all characters in any given vintage piece! They were always wholesome pieces and happy for the most part. It's always fun to go look at the vintage pieces you can.

Food is a huge reason I love vintage/retro things! Nothing brings a theme together like food! Jello made a killing off of all meals back in the day. Making It Modern on Youtube has made a name for herself making vintage dishes into modern master pieces! She has lead me to looking into more vintage recipes. While food goes through changes with the decades, like anything, it's interesting to see what people thought were attractive and tasty back then.

Makeup and hairstyle is what started me on the journey to keeping vintage in my life. Odette, from Decoding Odette, introduced me to two different vintage style vloggers; Cherry Dollface and Lisa Freemont Street. Both have incredible ways of going back to a vintage and retro styling of hair and makeup. Who would have thought that pincurling could be so much fun for a girl who loves her curling iron? Not me.

As you can see I love many things vintage. I think I'll let vintage cars be just for my best friend though. She adores vintage cars and I can understand. Her daddy instilled that into her heart. So that's all hers. Even my best friend loves vintage. She claims she doesn't love it like I do but I think it's in her just waiting to be released.

What are some vintage/retro things you?

What God Is Calling Me to Do

In a very few short months, I'll be a wife. A wife... That is still settling in my brain. I've been single, a girlfriend, and a fiance. But I've never been a wife. And to my old fashion mind, the one who keeps the household together.  God has been pushing me to learn more about this role. A role that is held in high regards to so many.

For two solid years now, I have been attempting to write a post about being a homemaker. I would write something and then hate it. I would stare for hours and not come up with a point. God wasn't ready for me to talk to the world about being a homemaker--because I still have a lot to learn.

When I think of a homemaker I think of those housewives that seem to have it all together right down to the apron while they cook. They have calendars that every single appointment written down. But I know deep in my heart, no one is perfect. That's the conviction that God is laying on my heart. To learn to better myself for my family, but realize no one is perfect, nor can they be.

No one can do it all no matter how hard they try or how they make is seem like they do. What they don't show is the sweatpants, the actual sweat, and the tears. The real life of dealing with termites, flat tire, or even death. For the longest my life goal was to be perfect. To be the mom that didn't show the hardships of life to my kids. Things have radically change. I'm not saying that I'm saying that I am constantly sad or mad because that has impact on the kids as well. I am just proving to my kids that there are sad and mad moments but you have to overcome them and live.

God has recently led me to a situation that I never thought I would be dealing with-- ever. And while I cannot talk about it now, it became even more clear to me that I need to know how to run a Godly house hold. How to make our house about God without forgetting to live.

And God is providing wisdom and knowledge for me. A few months ago A Pop of Jess sent me a new vlogging family to watch called The Dale Tribe. They are Christians and they have christian morals, but they are still fun and are a very tight knit family! The mother, Amy does Deep Thoughts with Amy that really pack a punch when listening to her speak.

But what really helped me with homemaking and realizing that it's not just something you can jump into is Young Wife's Guide and Homemaking Ministries. One is Jamie Balmet's blog, and the other is the courses and resources website her and her husband run. It's truly amazing to read about how to incorporate living with spiritual homemaking. I want to lead my family in the right direction, the Lord's direction.

Now I want to stop, and address the fact that I do not agree with everything that is said on her blog or the resources website. It's just like A Virtuous Woman. I love some of the information on her website. But she hates Halloween and I can't imagine my life without that spooky fun holiday with a touch of Hocus Pocus.

And that might be wrong of me, but it's what I'm choosing to do in life. We each have on our convictions and the things that stand out to us. And that's also a part of being a homemaker but not losing your authentic self. That's what is most important to me and I think this is why God is leading me through this path instead of a strict path. But again I could be wrong, but don't tell me. Let me discover it!

This is just the beginning of journey into homemaking and leading my family to the direction of the Lord fully. Why is this happening now? Because God has seasoned me to realize that my life is about to drastically change and I need to be set on Him. He is giving me the opportunity to set my eyes on Him before the storm starts so I can be prepared.

What homemaking resources do you use? How do you deal with the pressure? What are some of the blogs that guide you?

Happy Fourth of July: Mini Currents

Happy Fourth of July! This is America's birthday and we should proud of America's history. I'm always amazed at how so many people in this country do not realize why we celebrate the fourth of July. They think it's to honor soldiers or something else. It's not. It's about us as a country.

Tonight is a big deal in Vin's hometown. We are celebrating with great music, food, dancing... and of course fireworks! Now these fireworks are nothing like what's going to be at Disney World, but they will still be amazing!

I have been cooking most of the day since we arrived for tonight. The kids are having a splash party in the backyard. They are excited it's slightly cooler up here in the mountains with less humidity so they don't feel like they are being pushed to the ground by the air here.

GOING TO NEW YORK TOMORROW!

Disney Fireworks Live

Happy Fourth of July Weekend everyone! I have just arrived back into my hometown yesterday, which means I won't be viewing the Disney World Fireworks live myself. However, I will be live-streaming like most big time Disney fans!

The fireworks show will be streamed live on the Disney Parks Blog beginning at 8:50pm EST.

Magic Kingdom - July 4th, 2016

9:00 pm - "Celebrate America - A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" Fireworks

EPCOT - July 4th, 2016

10:00 pm - IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will feature The Heartbeat of Freedom, a 5-minute patriotic fireworks finale.

I hope you enjoy the fireworks. Fun little fact, beside the military, Disney is the one that spends the most on explosives. Pretty cool, huh?

June 2016 Favorites

June was a true roller coaster but it ended better than how it started which surprised me. Hope July is just as nice!

When this month started I couldn't have been happier. I was so excited to be living at Disney World again. There is something about being here for the summer. I felt like nothing could go wrong, because all I had to do was get over being sad about it being a year since my Mewmaw passed away.

But then something scary happened. First off, Christina Grimmie, who I had the privilege of actually meeting years ago in Nashville was killed at her concert in Orlando. She had a beautiful voice and bubbly personality that was contagious just watching her videos on Youtube. Then the next night there was the mass shooting in Orlando at the club. It was scary to wake up already upset and finding more upsetting news. I donated blood that very day, which astounded so many. Because I have a huge fear of needles and hate blood for the most part.

I thought that was enough, but then I was at work the next week and the craziness hit Disney World. It was like I was living in a surreal world where everything was around me. Disney World changed as a result of just a few people and I can't say that it didn't make me sad and that it took some time to get over everything and all the changes.

But what I was dealing with while all of this was going on was the fact that I was having health problem that was causing my family gigantic concern. Which just kept continuing through the entire month of June. My body is still coping and that's okay. Honestly, coping is something that I have had to learn!

Eye Makeup Product -

TOO FACED Peanut Butter & Jelly Eyeshadow Palette - Even during the summer I like darker makeup. I like dramatic without hot pink or neons. So this is a perfect palette for me! I love these colors!

Eye Makeup Brush -

MAC 217 Blending Brush - I am a person that hates lines in eye makeup. Blur it! There should only be lines in high dramatic make up. Otherwise make sure one color goes into the other flawlessly.

Face Makeup Product -

Good Morning - Honey Silk Facial Serum - I love this brand. I love how it makes my skin feel. I want everything they offer. This though is really a wakeup call for my skin before putting on make up first thing in the morning.

Face Makeup Brush -

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki™ Brush - I have started using different types of brush for make up. I like this flat Kabuki brush because it has great coverage and it's from Sigma. I haven't found a Sigma brush that I don't like.

Lip Product -

Dior 'Crème de Rose' Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm SPF 10 - An oldie but a goodie! I just love that I can use throughout the day! It really does amazing things to my lips. I've been using it close to 5 to 6 years, and I go through spells where I just have to have it!

Hair Care Product -

Clairol Hair Food Honey Apricot Moisture Shampoo + Conditioner - I received this in my Sprout box from Influenster. This is the most amazing product for working out and then showering! It gets the dirt and sweat off of your scalp and makes it feel incredibly soft!

Skincare -

Therapy Hydrator - When I first arrived at Disney this summer I headed straight to Basin and about this. I love this during the summer and the Almond one for Fall and winter. This is unlike lotion or body butter. This is very much what it says. It's a very saturated product.

Shower/Bath Product -

Jo Malone™ 'Orange Blossom' Bath Oil - This is expensive, I know. But it is so relaxing. It isn't anything fun which is what I'm used to in a bath. But this was luxurious when I felt horrible and wanted a bath to feel better.

Game -

I didn't really plan any game this month.

YouTube Channel/YouTuber -

Boho Berry - I'm still going strong on my Bullet Journal journey. This woman should be queen of Bullet Journaling! She is truly amazing at this! Plus her penmanship is insane!

Book/Story -

Wisteria Tea Room - I started this series because the third book was free and I bought the first two. Oh I was soooo not disappointed! I loved these books from the very beginning. It kept me very intrigued!

Song/Album -

Sia - Alive - There is something about working out to this song. It really helps me to put more force in my kickboxing. I have recently started kickboxing. It's a really good song for pushing though something.

Movie -

Finding Dory! It's great to have to have the fishes return again!

Pinterest Pin -

I didn't have a favorite Pin. I guess you could say the Apple Pie Wontons, but that's really a recipe!

Disney Moment -

Finding Dory came out in the theaters! Love it too!

Running/Fitness -

FabFitFun - It's kind of like Popsugar, but it's only sent quarterly and it always has something fitness related inside! It's just fun to have.

Food -

Apple Pie Wontons - I tried this recipe for something to snack on randomly. I prefer them without the dipping sauce.

Spotlight Etsy Shop -

PlanwithPizazz - She has some of the cutest Disney layouts. I know I love PrettySheepy, but I like a different layout now and then. Plus hers aren't glossy!

Lookback -

This is a different lookback than normal because I haven't been doing monthly favorites and therefor have not been filming a lookback. So here is February - June;
