Currents 06. 30. 2015

I've felt the pain of losing someone before in my life. But never someone that I have had all of my life. The lady that held me after my parents had held is gone from this world and it hurts. It hurts because my happy memories now make me cry.

I know it seems like a crazy time to talk about a Disney movie, but Inside Out really helped me understand what I am going through. My heart isn't mad at God, why in the world should I be mad at Him? I'm relieved that He took the pain from her. Even if it means He took her home to do it. I loved her that much. I'm not selfish. He wasn't going to ask her to walk around with that kind of pain.

My heart doesn't even have a whole because she isn't missing from mine. The only things I don't have are hugs and kisses... and her chili. And those things I can deal with while my time on Earth remains. Like the preacher said today, she was a Christian that had an unwavering faith. She really did. She read her Sunday school lessons all the time. "What does this word mean?"

I get my curiosity for knowledge from her and my need to be proven right also from her. "Look that up for me." She was 90 years old and yet could name off all the of the Kardashians and try her hardest to know most things about them and who they were connected to in some form or fashion.

It's a Celebration of Life

Today I am dedicating my whole day to things about my Mewmaw who passed away yesterday! She gave me so many hidden gem facts about life. She taught me a lot about household work and helped instill the love for Disney in me!

I will always tell my children about my mewmaw but today is for teaching them things and learning just how special a life truly can be! These are the things my mewmaw loved to do and I remember the most.

Food:

Breakfast:

Buttermilk biscuits and gravy, grits, and bacon

Lunch:

Chicken fingers, corn, and mashed potatos

Snack:

Little Debbie cakes

Supper:

Chili and a cucumber sliced up

As for other things of Mewmaw different ways she passed her time is what we are doing today as well.

Laundry - that woman was constantly doing laundry. She was tickled to death when she finally got a dryer instead of hanging her clothes out on a line.

Reading - Where the Red Fern Grows - She loved this book with her whole heart. We watched the movie several times together.

Watching movie - The Parent Trap - Countless times I watched this with her. She loved Haley Mills, which is probably why I adore her as well.

Watching TV Show - Who Wants to be a Millionaire - "It's time for Millionaire." Oh she loved that show. Especially when Meredith took over. Lately she watched the View. She also loved watching Match Game, Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, and American Idol.

Music - Dolly Parton, The Gaithers, and Kelly Clarkson - She had an interesting taste in music for sure.

My fiance went and bought us some tomato plants so we can grow them and teach the girls how to can tomatoes. I will always be grateful for her teaching me how to can. I will carry on that southern tradition for her.

And the last thing I plan to do is teach the children how to look up things in books and on the internet. My mewmaw was constantly wanting to know things, new things, and things to see if she was right. She wanted to know how words were pronounced and how they were spelled.

She was an amazing great great grandmother to my kids even if they barely got to know her. I will always remember her teaching me things and talking to me. What are memories do you have of your grandmother?

Waking up with an eerie feeling is never good. I went straight to my phone and asked my dad how was my Mewmaw. He said that time was drawing closer. She was making gurgling noises. I opted not to go. I know some people were not happy with that decision of mine, but I did not want to see my Mewmaw like that.

In the afternoon the call came that she didn't have much longer. I still opted not to go. The woman in that bed, I now know looked nothing like my Mewmaw. The lady in that bed was fragile and frail. Neither of which my Mewmaw was during her life. She passed away peacefully taking her last breath surrounded by her family at a beautiful and caring hospice.

We had her a part of the family for 90 years as she was my great grandmother. She loved to cook, sew, and sing. She didn't travel to many places but she did travel to Disney World and the mountains a good bit. She is already missed greatly.

Drawing: Another Creative Outlet For Me

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter then you've probably seen my drawings here and there. I have always loved to draw. I used to be in love with drawing "dresses" with hearts for the body top and skirt. (I would learn later in life that it's called a heart neckline.)

But going to Disney World brought something out in me. I usually do not care for attempting to draw characters because I never felt like they were any good. Lately though that seems to be changing. Below will be a few of my drawings from this year.

As you can see I enjoy doodling at work. That invoice was covered up by the end of the day.

This one was drawn on my iPad. It was a lot of fun for me. I remember being in London drawing this after watching Up!.

Then about two weeks ago I sat down to write cards to the boy scout troops that I sponsor through my business and I decided to branch away from Disney characters and try my hand at drawing Nintendo characters or even Mario characters.

I started with these two characters.

Then added some more.

And that concluded it. I'll admit that I found this as an outlet for me while I knew my Mewmaw was starting to decline. But I do love drawing dearly.

Mini Currents 06. 18. 15

Hello everybody! Today as you can see I spend most of the day drawing! Why? Well we sponsor a boy scout troop at my boutique and we are sending out cards and letters for them to receive at camp!

Also I have been busy today, making sure Vin took the cats to the vet. And also making sure we have everything to visit the Williams Syndrome clinic next week with May Dawn.

And the other part of my day was spent getting things ready for the kids triathlon this Saturday! So excited for my daughter, Rain, and my brothers, Bryant and George to race this weekend. I'm volunteering at this event like I have the last three years! It's always fun for the kids.

Summer 2015 Tag - Tan Lines

Here's another great tag to find out more about me. It's just that kind of day!
Catch some of my other summery tags here and here!

1. Beach House or Lake House?

Hm. Tricky indeed. I would have to go with beach house though. Just how I am. I like lake houses too, but beach house because they have vibe to them that is just summer.

2. Favorite Summer Hairstyle?

Braids and ponytails. I have the frizz... It's not pretty. It's like cotton candy on a stick.

3. Do you tan or burn?

Thankfully, I tan! Although, if I don't wear sunscreen I burn easily!

4. Have you ever gotten a henna tattoo?

Yes. I’ve gotten one before on my left wrist; it was an anchor (typical, I know). I've also gotten several others but that's the one that sticks out because that's what everyone was getting!

5. Bonfires or Night Swimming?

This question is tricky! I LOVE both so much. To me, bonfires are more of a fall activity so I'll have to go with night swimming! It’s super fun especially when the pool has different color lights!

6. If you could travel anywhere over the summer where would you go and why?

I think I would like to visit Spain or return to Australia however it would be winter for them during our summer. Possibly take some Disney Adventure trips.

7. Bikinis, Tankinis, or One-Piece bathing suits?

Bikinis... annd one pieces. Both can be so cute!

8. Summer makeup must haves?

Again check my other tags, but waterproof mascara is the biggest must. Also a good primer and setting spray!

9. How hot does it get where you live?

Summer where I live is usually in the high 90’s and can get as high as 105 or more. The humidity is what will kill you though. Sometimes, it's even hard to breath because the air is so thick.

10. Do you play any sports over the summer?

I will play beach volley ball. But summer sports consist of yoga, running, tennis and golf for me. And of course swimming.

11. Have you ever had a summer fling?

Nope, and I don't plan on it either.

12. Number one thing on your summer bucket list?

Lie in the sand at least once somewhere. *Gasps* Yes, I did say that.

13. Long hair or short hair over the summer?

I really like long hair all the time. I tried the whole short hair thing, it's not for me! At all.

14. Do you wear makeup to the pool/beach/lake?

I wear MINIMAL makeup to the beach/pool. (And of course sunscreen!)

15. Worst summer memory?

I don't really have any. I mean there are small embarrassing moments here and there, but not nothing to the point that it stands out as the worst.

Popsugar Must Have Boxes of June 2015

So how long has it been since I have graced this blog with an unboxing? A long time. I just didn't want that to become what I did all the time, and I felt like I had become that. My blog is not going to be subscription boxes. Yes I subscribe to a great many, but it's not my life.

So here we are with a Popsugar box from QVC.

The items in the QVC box was not individual wrapped like they are in most special boxes.

Foster Grant Aviator Sunglasses ($31)

I thought these were fabulous. I love the fact that they are an off gold not a true gold. However, they do make my looking at my iPhone hard because they are polarized and make the screen turn different colors. They also have the nose pieces which get stuck in my hair. And I'm notorious for sliding my sunglasses up in my hair. I don't think I will be keeping these but they are very trendy looking.

Halo Pocket Power 3000 (Blue Leather) (1 Year LMW) ($29.86)

This I was not expecting in my box! I love these for travel in Florida! This is amazing! I love the faux leather. My favorite part might be that it comes with a travel bag! My phone can even fit in there with it! Plus it comes with the cord to charge it! I'm really in love with this item!

Hampton Candy Assorted Sampler (15oz) (Red Gummy Fish, Gummy Bears & Licorice Bites)

This was a surprise as well! A very good one. I haven't been able to find a price anywhere. The Swedish fish were my favorite and were so fresh that I couldn't believe it! These were some of the best candies I have ever had! When they sell something from this company again I'll be buying!

GLAMGLOWYOUTHMUD™ TINGLEXFOLIATE TREATMENT ($69)

When I reviewed this product over a year I have used it a few times here and there. I usually use Lush's face masks. But this let me find a new love for it. I'm glad to have it on my shelf again! My stepmom attempted to make this "homemade" glamglow and it does nothing compared to the real deal. The fact that it's the real deal and not just a sample size

Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die for Mascara (0.27 fl oz) ($22)

The name didn't sound familiar to begin with but I finally remembered where I had heard this from in the past. I have never used this and I'm excited to start using it too! The wand is pretty basic and small so I'm thinking bottom lashes maybe?

Tangle Teezer Brush (Pink) ($14.50)

I'm not a fan of this. I prefer my Wetbush over this a zillion times. It's hard and scratches my head too hard. Yes, I am tender headed but this has no give at all. It's horrible on dry hair even though it says it's for both. I hated it.

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Hair Spray (4.2oz ) ($25)

This stuff smells so amazing! Plus it really does work! I have spent months (years) looking for a good texturizing, dry shampoo, this is it! This is amazing! I have used three of four times and I love it!

Steel by Design Hoop Earring (Goldtone, Rosetone, or Silvertone) ($24)

These earrings I ended up trading online for more candy (yes really!) The candy will be put to use in my house over these really plain and sort of boring earrings. I received the gold pair and I just didn't fall in love. They just had no character whatsoever.

Now onto the Summer Special Edition!

This was probably my favorite box out of all three of them. It was just fun and hip. Plus a lot of the stuff I'll be using! My sister, Taylor and I actually bought this together and in the end I ended up just paying her for the rest of it because I love these items so freaking much!

Savannah Bee Company Honey for Cheese and Old Fashioned Honey Dipper ($7.50)

Though I have heard of putting cheese on honey, I have never actually done such myself. That's about to change around my house! This honey is good on it's own even. It has almost a mint flavor like to it. It's delicious regardless.

Kendra Scott Ainsley Bracelet ($120)

I adore this! I didn't have this piece of jewelry from Kendra Scott so I was so darn excited that I squeal so that loud that my dog howled. It's such a gorgeous piece of jewelry from her. This piece alone paid for the box!

Baggu Weekend Bag in Sailor Stripe ($74)

This is my second favorite thing in the box! It's a huge bag! My children can fit into this back and I can tote. Ok not all of them but my three year old can easily be toted in this. This is perfect for the beach or for grocery shopping at Aldi's!

Omorovicza Gold Shimmer Oil ($80)

I wasn't so sure about this to begin with but after putting some on... I loved it! It made my skin so soft and the smell was pleasant. It wasn't an obvious shimmer, but very few people want to look like they have been dipped in glitter. So this was a keeper!

Sunny Life Beach Paddles in Bronte ($26)

These paddle bats are such an amazing quality! Taylor (my sister) and I played for hours with these. I cannot wait to take these to Orlando with me! I was curious at what else this company had with these being such great quality... They have pineapple ice cube trays!

Fringe Studio Glass Tray Love Anchors The Soul ($16)

This is just absolutely perfect for mine and Vin's private porch. The little room is done completely in harbor stuff. This is perfect for me on the porch to place my jewelry. This is so cute! I love it!

And the actual June Popsugar Must Have Monthly Subscription

This is one of my favorite boxes to day. It had a lot of the things that I am interested in! This is still my favorite subscription ever!

Quay Australia Mandate Sunglasses ($45)

The quality of these are outstanding, seriously! But the frames.... I feel like I should be singing Georgia on My Mind with Ray Charles. The bag these came with too are great as well. I know I will buy a pair from this company but these frames... Just no.

Pacifica Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette ($14)

This is was my favorite item in the box!!! The pigmentation of these shadows are just freaking fabulous! Plus these smell like.... Coconut!!! Seriously love this smell better than the chocolate eyeshadow from Too Faced! Omg and  the colors are great as well!! Plus when you lift the lid it tells you that you look pretty!

Judy Blume’s “In the Unlikely Event” ($16.77)

I haven't read a Judy Blume book in ages. This is going on my list of "To Read after the Popsugar 2015 Reading Challenge." I'm excited about it as well. I love books, reading, fiction...

Yogitoes Peacock hBand ($4)

I have never ordered one of these before, but this will not be my last one! This doesn't slide up and down my head at all like most bands do! This is a gorgeous color as well. I have used it several times and have plans to us it again very soon.

Spongelle Boxed Flowers – Fleur en Boite ($16)

This had the entire Popsugar box smelling when I opened it. It smelled decent in the box, but don't add water and actually bath with this. I seriously thought it smelled like Scrubbing Bubbles! I will use the 30% to buy a scent that I think would have been better.

SNAP Infusion – Super Candy ($4)

I LOVE THESE!!!! I use these a lot already but these were ate pretty quickly! I want more of these for my runs, yoga, and workouts.

Extra: Sweet & Spark $30 Gift Card ($30)

Oh oh oh the jewelry on here is so amazing and it's a $30 gift card!!! Hello that's amazing!!! I can't wait to use this!!!!
